The Best Training Treats

Treats are a bit of a secret weapon for doggy parents. But with aisles exploding with options, how do you pick the best ones?

Top Tips:

The best types of training treats should be small enough to gobble up in one easy mouthful, & tasty & healthy enough to make them worthwhile. You don’t want to spend a truckload on treats that don’t work, or tasty treats that are unhealthy and lead to weight gain, anxiety or health issues like itchy paws, skin, ears & allergies.

So, you always want to choose treats that are high quality options with more nutritional value, rather than just those with additives, flavours and empty calories; particularly for growing pups or senior doggies.

Nutritionally designed puppy treats are great because they help ensure that your puppy gets all the necessary vitamins and minerals needed during these early developmental stages. They support everything from bone growth to brain development, calming focussed behaviour & avoiding health issues like sensitive tummies, allergies or skin issues.

Allergies & Sensitivities Tip:

If allergies or sensitivities are a concern, it’s best to choose high-quality, Omega-3 rich, gluten free, single protein options (such as our DAYA range).

Treat Size

Offer puppy appropriately sized treats, like those you can break into smaller or bigger portions. Small breeds will struggle with larger chunks while big breeds could scoff down bite-sized pieces without even noticing them - making training ineffective.

When training, avoid chewy treats or dental chews as you want the treat to provide a quick reward.

Dental Health

Chewing harder biscuit style dog treats can help reduce plaque build-up and promote healthy puppy gums. Particularly those with seaweed or microalgae in them; amazing ingredients for dental health.

If using chews, or softer treats; make sure they’re sugar-free as excess sugars can lead to tooth decay and oral health issues.

Using One Treat can get Boring

Variety is essential in keeping your puppy interested during training. Sticking to only one type of treat might lead to boredom and your pup will lose interest.

So, mix things up occasionally with different treat flavours: Visit our shop for our award-winning range of flavours, all in hard breakable size options, with added microalgae for dental health, and super yummy, healthy & eco conscious to boot.

Socializing Tip: If you use treats during socializing, your pup will associate it as a more rewarding experience, building confidence & encouraging more desire to get out there and say hi to new buds.
