Is Your Dog Trying to Tell You Something?

Hi there, hope your week was great! I’m Honor, qualified Nutritionist & Founder of Daya Pet Food Co.

Each week at the markets, I chat with so many amazing dog parents who are dealing with the same frustrating (and uncomfortable) symptoms in their pups:

🐾 Itchy paws and ears🐾 Smelly skin, fur, farts or breath🐾 Food allergies or sensitivities🐾 Upset tummies and soft poops🐾 Dull coats or low energy.

And guess what? It’s not just one breed or age—it’s across the board.

So, what’s really going on?

Over the last decade, we’ve seen a major shift in what’s going into our dogs’ food and care products. Commercial pet foods are often filled with chemical additives, fillers, preservatives, poor-quality meats, and saw dust- yep, you heard me- saw dust. There’s also more synthetic grooming products, medications, and vaccines, and our pups' systems are under serious stress.

So, here Are 5 Signs Your Dog Might Need a Diet Change (and How to Help):

1. Constantly Itchy Paws or Ears? That’s often a sign of inflammation caused by food sensitivities.✅ Try a single-protein, wholefood &/or raw food diet.

2. Stinky Coat or Breath That Won’t Go Away? That funk could be your dog’s way of detoxing an overload of chemicals.✅ Switch to fresh, whole foods rich in greens or microalgae to support natural detox pathways.

3. Food Allergies? From skin rashes to digestive issues, many commercial foods contain common allergens like wheat, and soy.✅ Opt for a novel protein, wholefood or limited ingredient diet.

4. Gas, Loose Stools or Vomiting? These are signs their gut isn’t happy.✅ Introduce gut-supportive foods like high-fibre, wholegrains, pre & probiotics.

5. Low Energy or Just Not Thriving?Poor nutrition can leave dogs sluggish and dull.✅ Fuel them with real food + daily support for vitality and longevity.

✨ Let’s Help Your Dog Feel Amazing Again

Recipe of the week:

Bone Broth

1-2 kg of organic meat bones from a healthy source (organic, grass fed)

2 carrots, rinsed and chopped

2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar

1 tablespoon or more of sea salt

1 teaspoon of herbs or spices, such as ginger and turmeric, rosemary

2 cloves of garlic Filtered water

1 Roast any raw bones first. Place them in a roasting dish and roast for 30 minutes at 180 degrees (you can add pumpkin to this if you like). Or use left over already cooked bones from previous meals.

2 Place the cooked bones in a large saucepan.Pour (filtered) water over the bones until the saucepan is 3/4 full and add the vinegar. Let sit for 20-30 minutes in the water.

3 Add salt, spices and/or herbs.

4 On a high heat bring the broth to a boil with the lid on. Once it has reached boil, reduce to a low and simmer for 8-12 or more hours.

5 During the first few hours of simmering, you’ll notice impurities floating to the surface. Scoop these off with a big spoon and discard.

6 After 8-12 hours remove from heat and let cool slightly. Strain using a fine metal strainer to remove all the bone and vegetable parts.

7 When cooled, add the broth to your pups food or use in between meals to restore & build up health.

Store in a glass jar or bowl in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze for later use.
