Hello & I’m starting back into something I did years ago on my nutrition pages with a fortnightly blog for Daya Pet Food Co. where everything I’m talking about will be centred around nutrition, science, sustainability & mindfulness. Read along, follow or sign up to my newsletter if you’re interested. It would be lovely to have you there for the ride.
I started Thankful Thursdays 15 years ago, when I was a columnist for an Australian wide newspaper group, which, as most newspapers are; was filled with only the most horrendous things reported. Essentially that’s what the news is; a list of the worst things happening around you. This troubled me. I didn’t feel people needed any more of that- I feel the same way now. I want to not only guide people, but also your pets, into healthier ways to live, because interestingly, the more positive, affirmative, power-full type thinking you can be as an owner, the more chilled, compliant & happy your pet will be.
And it's as simple as getting into the regular habit of listing the things you’re grateful for, which actually rewires your brain to see the world through new eyes. Feelings of stress are lowered, depression, and more opportunities are noticed and pursued, while the body and mood become healthier. This in turn, has a cascading impact onto your pet in them wanting to listen to you, obey, be calm and happy. Because emotions, mood & psychology are more highly contagious element than any viral or bacterial element.
Learning the science behind this encouraged me to make a simple bedtime routine for my children too, where each night before bed, I’d ask them to tell me 3 things they were proud of themselves for, and 3 things they were grateful for, hopefully establishing a habit they could easily draw upon as they grew.
And so today is my first Thankful Thursday back, and I’ll start with why I’m thankful.
I’m Thankful to be alive and healthy & have incredible family & friends & our beautiful Border collie pup Daya. I’m grateful that I have the opportunity to support human clients in need, towards health with the most simple to complex problems, in physical & mental/emotional fields, through holistic naturopathic nutrition, science & mindfulness practices.
And I’m grateful to have the chance to help animals and pets through the holistic, eco friendly healthy dog food we’ve designed and created, which the earth benefits from too.
I’d love to hear what you’re grateful/thankful for in the comments, because just thinking about it, listing it, saying it; can re-wire your brain, lower stress, anxiety & depression and make you healthier, while helping you have a calmer, more responsive, obedient, happier pet too.
And here’s a little science on it if you’re interested too.
